Welcome to the NAFC

Hello - Ahnii -Tansi - Waachay - Oki - Tawnshi - Kwe kwe - She:kon - She:koli - Tunngasugit - Welcome - Boozhoo - Bonjour

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the National Association of Friendship Centres (NAFC) official website. The NAFC is proud to represent the more than 117 Friendship Centres and 7 Provincial and Territorial Associations that make up the Friendship Centre Movement. From Coast-to-Coast-to-Coast; today's Friendship Centres play a pivotal role in providing essential Aboriginal cultural based programs and services to a growing Canadian urban Aboriginal population.

For more than half-of-a-century Friendship Centres across the country have contributed to the strengthening of the urban Aboriginal community and have established a strong reputation among municipal, provincial and federal governments as a viable resource for managing and coordinating government funded urban Aboriginal programs and services. From rural communities to the largest Canadian urban centres, the spirit of the Friendship Centre Movement continues to enrich the lives of tens of thousands of Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people.

Our Mission is to improve the quality of life for Aboriginal peoples in an urban environment by supporting self-determined activities which encourage equal access to, and participation in, Canadian Society; and which respect and strengthen the increasing emphasis on Aboriginal cultural distinctiveness.

The NAFC website offers a wealth of information. I encourage you to explore the NAFC website and to take from it a newfound  understanding and appreciation of what the Friendship Centre Movement is all about.

In Friendship,

Vera Pawis Tabobondung
NAFC President
