Re-elected as President, for a second term, at the NAFC's 34th Annual General Meeting, July 5-8, 2005 in Grande Prairie, AB , Vera Pawis Tababondung is of the Ojibway Nation, a member of the Fish Clan from the Wasauksing First Nation, a mother of three and grandmother of eight.

Vera has been involved in the Friendship Centre Movement for over 25 years. She is currently the Past President of the Ontario Federation of Indian Friendship Centres.

At the local level, Vera serves as an Honorary Board Member at the Parry Sound Indian Friendship Centre. She has retired from the Parry Sound Friendship Centre after 25 years of service in the variety of capacities including voluntary, administration, management and training.

As a long time member of the OFIFC Executive Committee, Vera continues to assist the OFIFC in various forums such as the Aboriginal Healing & Wellness, Noojimawin Health Authority and presently enjoys the role as Past President of the OFIFC.

Ms. Pawis Tabobondung has served six terms with Chief and Council for the Wasauksing First Nation.

Elected Secretary of the National Association of Friendship Centres at the 34th Annual General Meeting July 5 - 8, 2005 in Grande Prairie Friendship Centre, held in Grande Prairie, Alberta.

Kama is the Executive Director of the Lillooet Friendship Centre Society located within the St’at’imc Territory in British Columbia. Of Tsalagi and Ojibway decent, Kama was born in Washington State and moved to British Columbia when she was 10 years old. She has been involved in the Friendship Centre movement for over 15 years and has been recognized and acknowledged as a leader within the Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal community at a local and provincial level. Kama is dedicated to capacity development, social change and the grass roots movement. In recognition of her passion, commitment, and work, Kama was nominated for the 2005 Nobel Peace Prize.

Gordon King was born on June 13, 1938. He has been the Executive Director of the Mi'kmaq Native Friendship Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia since June, 1976. He has extensive experience in banking, accounting, administration and small business management.

A long history with the Friendship Centre Movement, Gordon has represented the Province of Nova Scotia on the National Association of Friendship Centres (NAFC) Board of Directors for twenty-six (26) years. In the late seventies he was elected Treasurer of the NAFC, a position he held for six held years.

In 2003, Gordon was appointed Interim Treasurer for the NAFC and at the 33rd Annual General Meeting, held July 7-10, 2004 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, he was elected Treasurer for a two year term.

Gordon is married to his wife Kathy of forty-two (42) years. They live in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia with their two dogs Sierra and Denver.

Youth Executive: Chris Sheppard



Christopher Sheppard is a 23 year old Inuit man who was born in the small Inuit community of Postville, Labrador.

After leaving high school, he pursued a post secondary education at Memorial University of Newfoundland.  During this time, he became involved in the St Johns Native Friendship Centre.

Throughout his years in university, he committed himself to various Aboriginal initiatives, such as the Aboriginal resources centre; also acting as President of the Aboriginal Student Committee. 

In 2007, he ran for the position representing the Atlantic region for the Aboriginal Youth Council (AYC) of the NAFC, and remained in the position until July 2008, when he was elected to the Youth Executive position on the NAFC Board of Directors.

Chris believes that young people need realize that they have the power to change and shape the future, and that they are the leaders of today, and not simply the leaders of tomorrow.

Peter Dinsdale is an Anishnawbe and member of the Curve Lake First Nation in Ontario . In 1996 he obtained a Bachelor of Arts - Political Science and Native Studies and received a Master of Arts - Interdisciplinary Humanities in 1997 from Laurentian University.

Mr. Dinsdale has worked with Aboriginal people and organizations in the urban environment at the local, regional and national level to improve the quality of life for Aboriginal people.

He is currently Executive Director of the National Association of Friendship Centres (NAFC).  The NAFC is a network of 117 Aboriginal Friendship Centres and 7 Provincial/Territorial Associations across Canada delivering a variety of cultural and social programs to urban Aboriginal communities.

Peter resides in Ottawa with his wife Tammy and their two sons.
